During a period of slowdown in the development of photovoltaics at the European level, Greece continues to stand out with positive performance, according to the latest report by the association SolarPower Europe.
The report specifically states that “the Greek photovoltaic market is developing relentlessly, continuously setting new records.” After two milestone years in 2022 and 2023, the installation of 2.9 gigawatts is projected for 2024. Moreover, this upward trend shows no signs of slowing down. With the new installations, Greece’s total capacity is expected to reach 10 gigawatts by the end of 2024, marking a 40% increase from the 7.1 gigawatts of 2023.
The Greek market is primarily characterized by medium-sized projects (10 to 1,000 kilowatts), which represent 67.9% of the total installed capacity. However, both large projects (26.5%) and self-production (5.5%) are showing impressive growth, with the self-production sector expected to double by 2024, reaching 400 megawatts.

In the future, the association predicts that the total power will reach 13.5 gigawatts as early as 2026 and will touch 22.2 gigawatts by the end of the decade, according to the estimates of SEF.
Finally, the main challenges that emerge include network availability and cuts.
