How will RES meet 65.7% of electricity needs in 2030

Cumulative investment in 800MW wind and photovoltaic power each year provides for the new National Plan for Energy and Climate so that by 2030 renewable energy will cover over 65% of our electricity needs in our country.

In the EESC text, however, it is acknowledged that in order to achieve the objectives, there should be bold changes to the licensing system, in which times should be shortened and procedures simplified.

If the obstacles are overcome then according to the EESC, it is estimated that by 2030 they will invest in the installation of new RES in the country of EUR 9 billion, ie around EUR 900 million per year without calculating the investment in electricity infrastructure (transmission lines) which it is estimated that they will reach 5.5 billion euros or else 550 million euros a year

The country's electricity system under the new EESC will rely primarily on wind and photovoltaics, which are expected to boom in the coming years.

In particular, the new ESIA for wind farms predicts to total 7 GW from 3.6 GW today. The new power additions are timed as follows: by 2022 600MW (4.2GW in total), by 2025 1GW (5.2GW in total) by 2027 800MW (6GW in total) and by 2030 1GW (7GW) total)

Photovoltaics are projected to reach 7.7GW from 3 GW today. Over time, the increase in installed capacity of fb is expected to be as follows:

By 2022 900MW (3.9GW in total) by 2025 1.4GW (5.3GW in total) by 2027 1GW (6.3GW in total) and by 2030 1.4GW (7.7GW in total).

The share of RES in gross electricity generation is expected to double to 65.7% from 32.6% today.

Lignite withdrawal
According to the EESC, the first units to be withdrawn by 2022 will be for units of a total capacity of 1000MW. So in the next 2 years the power of lignite units will be reduced from 3.9GW to 2.9GW.

The bulk of the lignite units will be withdrawn by 2025, ie in the next five years, with a total capacity of 2.2GW. That is, the PPC lignite fleet will be reduced from 2.9GW to 0.7 GW.

Finally, complete lignification is expected in 2028 when the last 700MW of lignite units will cease to operate.

Natural gas units
Gas plants are expected to replace a significant part of the withdrawal of lignite units. According to the EESC of 5.2 GW of power available today, in 2022 there will be an additional 800 MW, ie gas plants will reach 6GW.

By 2025 another 900 MW will be added, ie the installed capacity will reach 6.9GW. According to the EESC, by 2030, gas plants will reach 7GW, ie a total of 1.8 GW of new units will cover approximately 50% of the lignite withdrawn.
